Install FileZilla Server on Linux

In this tutorial, we will guide you through installing and configuring a FileZilla server on your Linux-based VPS. Before proceeding, make sure to update your package list with the latest versions available.

To begin, you need to access your Hostinger VPS using SSH. If you are not familiar with connecting to a server via SSH, please refer to our tutorial on how to do so. Once connected, navigate to the terminal and update your package list by running the following command:

`sudo apt-get update`

After updating your package list, proceed with installing the vsftpd package using the following command:

`sudo apt-get install vsftpd`

Once installed, you need to configure your firewall to allow FTP traffic. This is an essential step as it ensures that your FileZilla server remains secure and accessible from outside.

Allowing FTP Traffic from the Firewall

To do this, open the Ubuntu terminal and run the following command:

`sudo ufw allow ftp`

This will enable FTP traffic on your VPS's firewall. Make sure to check if any other rules are preventing FTP connections.

Now that you have configured your firewall, it is time to test your FileZilla server connection using a client such as FileZilla.

Testing Connection with FileZilla

To do this, open FileZilla and create a new connection by clicking on 'File' > 'Site Manager'. Enter the IP address of your VPS, followed by your username and password. Make sure to select the correct protocol (FTP) and port number (typically 21).

Once you have entered all the required information, click 'Connect' to establish a connection with your FileZilla server. If everything is set up correctly, you should be able to transfer files between your local machine and your VPS using FTP.
